Beer Bread

Basic Mix (see below for variations)

  • 2 2/3 cup flour – then sift (for a total of 3 cups sifted flour)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 12 ounces beer
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Heat oven to 375. Combine and stir the dry ingredients. Slowly stir in the beer and mix just until combined. Lumps are ok. Spread into greased loaf pan. Drizzle the melted butter over the top. Bake 55 to 65 minutes. Use a thermometer to determine the bread has reached 210 degrees.

Variations – Stir in when the dry ingredients are mixed.

Italian: 1 tsp dried basil, 1 tsp dried oregano (if fresh, use a tbsp) and 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese (Kraft in the plastic green jar works just fine). Optional: 2 minced cloves of garlic. This style makes the BEST grilled ham and cheese (I use swiss). Use olive oil in your heated pan (instead of butter on the bread) for a nice finish.

Cranberry Cheese: 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese (Kraft works just fine). An extra 1/2 tsp of sugar. 1/2 to 3/4 cup dried cranberries (find them where raisins are sold in the grocery store). This is delicious toasted with a little cream cheese.
